The fact of the matter is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us. Whereas a person with self-awareness is able to exercise a little meta-cognition and say, “Hmm… every time my sister calls me and asks for money, I end up drinking a lot of vodkas.
The problem is that when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us. Whereas a person with self-awareness just hits the bottle and doesn’t look back.
Which makes us feel good. If we weren’t aware of our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we wouldn’t be able to manage them.
The problem is when we’re not aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us. Similarly, our minds are no longer active, but we are still able to control them.
The reason we are able to control our mind is because we are able to think and act. We can control our mind, but we don’t control it. The only thing that we can control is our ability to think. Which is why our minds sometimes feel better about themselves. Like we are able to control our minds by thinking or acting.
And this ability to control our mind is something that can be enhanced by the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment. It is a simple but powerful way of allowing our minds to be the ones to choose. So instead of trying to control our minds by thinking about what we would like to think about, we can simply choose what we would like to think about. This is the same way that we can control our minds by choosing to control our actions.
Because we have the ability to decide what we want to do, what we would like to think about, what we would like to think about when we get around to doing it, we can then control our thoughts by acting on them.
Foresight is just the ability to allow our thoughts to determine our actions. There are two ways to access foresight, through free will and through the use of your brain. The former is when you choose to be what you want to be, or are forced to be what you are forced to be, and the latter is when you choose to be what you want to be, whether you are forced to be it or not.
In the video I linked to earlier, the developers mention that the game is not about being good at things, it’s about being good at thinking, and the best way to do that is to imagine yourself as you want to be, rather than being what you already are. This is not an easy thing to do but I think it’s a good thing to do so we can be happy and not worry about what we do not want.
